‘Shogun’ and ‘The Bear’ look set to dominate TV’s biggest night

The Emmy Awards are back – for the second time this year.

If you’re wondering whether déjà vu is a real thing, it’s probably because the 75th Emmy Awards, which honor shows from 2023, aired earlier this year.

Due to strikes by both the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) last year, the awards ceremony was moved from its regular September date to January 2024.

The 76th Emmy Awards, airing Sept. 15, will honor series aired between June 1, 2023, and May 31, 2024.

The leader of this year’s Emmy race is Shogun, which swept the nominations with a whopping 25. The drama series has already broken the record for most Emmy wins in a single year (previously held by Game of Thrones) after winning 14 Creative Arts Emmys earlier this month.

The Bearwhich topped the comedy series nominations with 23 (breaking 30 Rock(the club’s record) shows its dominance again after the 10 wins in January.

⏰ When is the show?

  • The 76th Emmy Awards will air live on Sunday, September 15 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

  • The show will air live on ABC and stream on Hulu the following day.

🎤 Who is the host?

  • Father and son Eugene and Dan Levy will host the event together for the first time.

  • The comedy duo are Emmy winners themselves and have won multiple awards for their work on the series Schitt’s Creek.

  • “For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a real quarantine tent, the idea of ​​performing in a real theatre this year was motivation enough,” Eugene and Dan said in a joint statement.

  • This year’s line-up of presenters features a mix of nominees and stars from critically acclaimed and audience-favorite shows.

  • Lily Gladstone (Under the bridge) and Kali Reis (Real Detective: Nightland) are the first indigenous actresses to be nominated for an Emmy Award.

  • D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai is the first Indigenous actor to receive an Emmy nomination in the Best Actor category.

  • Reservation Dogs scored his first Emmy nominations for Best Comedy Series and Best Actor, while The morning show received its first nomination for Best Drama Series in the Outstanding Drama Series category.
