The Sewickley Academy boys lacrosse team was led in 2024 by freshman Nick Neavin, who was recognized for his efforts throughout the season with a first-team all-section honor.

Neavin was joined by freshmen Eli Stephan and Jake Donesec, among others. Stephan and Donesec were second team all-section selections.

There were no seniors on the 2024 roster. The 16-player roster consisted of 10 freshmen and five sophomores. The Panthers’ oldest player was Caleb McAdams, the team’s only junior.

Roig fills nets

Lucy Roig is a scoring machine on the lacrosse field.

Roig, a 5-foot-10 midfielder who will be on the junior team in 2024-25, has scored 138 goals and added 20 assists in her first two seasons with the Quaker Valley girls lacrosse team.

After starting her freshman career with 76 goals, Roig scored 62 goals in her sophomore year.

“Lucy is a huge asset to our team,” QV coach Laura Peery said. “She has an excellent lacrosse IQ and works extremely hard on her skills. The girls really feed off of Lucy’s energy on the field; when we’re in tough games, they really look to her for motivation.

“She has been amazing the last two years scoring goals and winning draw controls. We are looking forward to seeing what she can do over the next two years.”

Roig has also secured 76 ground balls, forced 48 turnovers and won 182 draw controls in her first two seasons with the Quakers.

South African athletes honored

The stars of Section 1-A on the girls lacrosse team this past season included the following Sewickley Academy athletes: Libby Eannarino and Ashley Close on the first team, Claudia Kronk and Lauren Retzlaff on the second team, and Kendall Sykes and Grace Jardini received honorable mentions.

Five seniors from this year’s team have left: Cait Donahue, Eannarino, Close, Kronk and Sykes.

Two Sewickley Academy softball players were named to the 2024 all-section team: Quincy Sirko, a junior pitcher, and Keira Church, a freshman shortstop. The Panthers competed in Section 1-A this spring.

Also a feather in the cap goes to Sewickley Academy’s Herlynn Niepa, Abby Bojalad and Cooper D’Antonio, who advanced to the WPIAL Class 2A track and field finals this year.

Niepa, a sophomore, competed in the 200-meter dash and the high jump. Bojalad, a senior, ran the 3,200. D’Antonio, a junior, advanced to the 800.
