Sergio Perez takes revenge on Red Bull exit rumors as pressure mounts

Sergio Perez has once again taken revenge on speculation about his tenure at Red Bull Racing. After a turbulent performance this season and most recently at the Mexico City Grand Prix, rumors began to circulate about his possible departure from the team.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has hinted that team roles, including Perez’s, may need to be re-evaluated due to the dip in his results. Horner noted, as reported by Formula1.com:

“As a team we have to get both cars scoring points and that is the nature of F1. From a team perspective, we are working with him as hard as we can to support him.

“I think we have done everything we can to support Checo, and we will continue to do so this weekend in Brazil, but there comes a point when you can only do so much.”

However, Perez responded with confidence, telling the media ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix:

“No, not at all. After all, they are just rumors.

“You’ll see me in Vegas, you’ll see me next year. I’m not the one who’s worried about it.”

Perez’s recent race in Mexico presented major challenges. Starting from 18th on the grid and incurring a five-second time penalty marked the start of a difficult event. A collision with VCARB driver Liam Lawson compounded his problems, damaging his RB20 and leaving him finishing 17th. While reflecting on the heated battle with Lawson, Perez added:

‘What happened is in the past. We’ll move on and take those first ten laps as hope. We understood what happened in qualifying, we saw problems, we tried to solve it before Sunday and I think we went in the right direction, so that’s definitely promising.”

He concluded:

“We understood a lot of the problems we had in Mexico, and if you look at my first ten laps in Mexico, they looked good and competitive from my side,” he reiterated. “But we definitely have to find (something) – if you look at the pace of McLaren and Ferrari, they seem to be on a different level in the last two races.

“I really hope we can be in the mix here. We understood some of the issues, but it’s just not very clear how we’re going to solve them. It’s a different circuit, the altitude probably had a bigger impact on us (in Mexico), so we’ll see. I think tomorrow we’ll have a pretty good idea of ​​where we stand.”
