Sepp van den Berg: Brentford agree £25m deal to sign Liverpool defender

Brentford have completed a deal worth around £25million for Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg.

The 22-year-old was at the west London club’s training ground to finalise terms on a contract after choosing Brentford over a number of other clubs interested in signing him.

German champions Bayer Leverkusen were the last club in the bidding war, but Brentford are confident they have beaten off the competition.

There is still some concern at Brentford over a potential turnaround for the Dutchman, having come close to signing midfielder Archie Gray in June but ultimately losing him to Tottenham.

Van den Berg, who spent last season on loan at German club Mainz, is expected to join Thomas Frank’s squad at Brentford.

Van den Berg joined Liverpool from Dutch side PEC Zwolle in 2019, but has only played four games for the Reds so far. He also spent 18 months on loan at Preston North End.
