Scottie Scheffler says he’s annoying Tony Romo with a strange golf bet

Tony Romo’s golf skills are no secret. The NFL on CBS analyst has played four PGA Tour events, won celebrity tournaments and is a scratch golfer.

But the best indication that Romo is really good is that he has played hundreds of rounds with Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 golfer in the world. Not only that, but he has also won a number of bets with the PGA Tour star.

On the other hand, he has lost a number of bets to Scheffler. And the way Scheffler pays off Romo is hilarious. The golf star shared his unusual payment method this week with the Substandard podcast.

“There were a few times where he played and wrote checks to guys,” Scheffler said. “I never go to the bank, so I keep it in my little bag. Every time I go to pay him back… let’s say he owes me a thousand dollars, so he writes me a check for a thousand dollars. The next week I lose $600, I give him the check and say, “Okay, you owe me $400.”

“He gets so angry… ‘This isn’t real money, this isn’t fair.’ Tony, it’s your name on the check, this is what you gave me, I’m giving it back to you now. “This isn’t real money.” This is what you did.”

While Romo may quibble with that payment method, Scheffler is a fan of the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback’s golf game.

“He’s a very, very good golfer,” Scheffler said. “If his body cooperated for him, I think he would be a lot better. But it’s tough for him to get beat up all those years in the NFL.”
