Scheffler’s little scheme to pay his caddy

Guest on the American online podcast “Pardon My Take”, world number 1 Scottie Scheffler looked back on his XXL 2024 season and the compensation that comes with it. He casually revealed a small arrangement to keep everyone happy financially.

The $25 million FedEx Cup bonus Scottie Scheffler received a few weeks ago after winning the Tour Championship at the end of the 2024 season brought his total on-course earnings to more than $62 million.

It must be said that with his seven victories on the PGA Tour alone, the Texan has given himself the means to break his own record from last year, surpassing it by almost $21 million.

If we add up all the big boss’s earnings, that amounts to an almost obscene $12,000 for every shot fired each year. While the numbers can be staggering, Scheffler doesn’t seem to pay much attention to them, as he said a few days ago on the American podcast “Pardon my Take”: “It’s been a fun year, but I don’t really think about the money.

It’s a big deal with FedEx and everything else, but at the end of the day, I’m just playing golf and the money is just a gift on top of all that.” So he pays little attention to the numbers, but how does he keep track of the refunds to his famous co-driver on the course, Ted Scott? Again, he answers with his trademark smile: “We have a young girl who helps us run the accounts, because I’m like a kid about it and I can’t keep track of all that stuff.

She quickly took over that task and would text me at the end of every week to say, ‘Hey, this is how much we should pay Ted.’ I say, ‘That’s great. Perfect.’” In professional golf, it is customary for the winner of a tournament to pay his caddie 10% of the money he wins.

If he finishes in the top ten, that’s 7% and for the rest, 5%. It’s estimated that Scott earned $5.2 million this season.
