In retro news I celebrate the 30th anniversary of Earthworm Jima run ‘n’ gun platformer that is as iconic as it is bizarre. I can still remember being blown away by the slick character animations, as they were similar to the high (Agra)ba(h)r set from Aladdin by Disney from the year before. Better yet, EJ exuded a unique weirdness that allowed for left-field shifts in gameplay from level to level and a whipworm-smart satire on tired gaming tropes. It was a shame when a half-hearted attempt to 3D this franchise left Jim in the mud for good.
