Saturday’s Red Sox-Twins game has been moved to a Sunday doubleheader

The Twins’ Pablo Lopez will start the first game against Nick Pivetta, while Zebby Matthews will start the second game against Kutter Crawford.

The Red Sox needed to beat the Twins in a three-game series at Fenway Park this weekend to have a chance at a playoff spot.

Those hopes are effectively over after Friday’s 4-2, 12-inning loss. The Red Sox now trail the Twins by five games for the final AL Wild Card spot with eight games remaining. The offense was again shorthanded Friday, striking out 20 (a franchise record) and going 1-for-19 with runners in scoring position.

With the playoffs out of reach, the Red Sox (76-78) are looking to avoid a third straight losing season.
