Samu Omorodion: Chelsea working on deal to sign Atletico Madrid attacker

Chelsea are working on a deal to sign Spanish striker Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid.

The Spanish club agreed a deal worth £81.5million to sign Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez on Monday, with the sale of Omorodion helping to raise funds to buy the Argentine.

Personal terms have now been agreed with Alvarez, who joins for an initial fee of £64.4million, with a further £17.1million in potential add-ons.

Meanwhile, Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has agreed a £33million transfer to Atlético in a separate deal.

The 20-year-old Omorodion joined Atlético last summer after making his La Liga debut for Granada, scoring against the Madrid club.

Atletico immediately sent Omorodion on loan to Alaves, where he scored eight goals in 35 games last season.

He is currently competing at the Olympic Games and scored once as Spain reached the final.

Chelsea have spent around £115m so far this summer on midfielders Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga and Omari Kellyman, plus goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, defenders Tosin Adarabioyo and Caleb Wiley, winger Estevao Willian and striker Marc Guiu.

They have sold defenders Ian Maatsen and Lewis Hall and striker Omari Hutchinson, while Hakim Ziyech, Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva have left on free transfers and Gallagher is on the verge of a move to Spain.

Romelu Lukaku’s future is uncertain as the Belgian striker has spent the past two years on loan in Italy.
