Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025: Likely dates, launch plans for the Samsung Galaxy S25 and more

Before you know it, the new year will be here and one of Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked events will soon follow. And while Samsung hasn’t issued any formal Galaxy Unpacked 2025 invites yet – or even acknowledged that it’s hosting such an event – it’s pretty clear what’s going to be on the agenda.

Samsung typically turns to the first product event of the year to launch its latest flagship phones. This time it’s the Galaxy S25 range, and we’re already hearing rumors about what’s planned for those new handsets. Beyond that, though, things are a little more up in the air, although there are certainly a few intriguing possibilities when it comes to products that could be added to the S25 phones at Galaxy Unpacked 2025.

It is not wise to think about Unpacked 2025 now. Recent launch events have taken place in the first two months of the year, with the 2024 edition that brought us the Galaxy S24 taking place particularly early. It’s not likely that Samsung will push the date back any further – not without clashing with the huge CES trade show taking place in early January – but a mid-month event certainly seems to be on the cards.

Here’s a closer look at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025, including when Samsung could host the product launch and what it could show at the event.

When will Galaxy Unpacked 2025 take place?

Samsung hasn’t announced a date for its next product event yet, but you only have to look at the company’s recent history to find out when Unpacked could take place. Each year, Samsung seems to move the event forward, starting with an event on February 7 in 2022, followed by the 2023 edition on February 1 and last year’s installment on January 17. Most Samsung watchers assume the company will stick with January for 2025 as well. .

A news report from South Korea even claims that Samsung’s next Unpacked event would take place around January 23rd. That’s a Thursday, which would be a usual day of the week for Unpacked. The 2023 and 2024 editions of Unpacked took place on a Wednesday. It is possible that the original report used the date the event would take place in the Korean time zone; if so, that would mean the event would take place in the US on January 22

Samsung’s last two Unpacked events took place in Northern California: San Francisco in 2023 and San Jose this past year. The report detailing a possible event date for Galaxy Unpacked 2025 claims that the next edition will once again take place in San Francisco.

Can I live stream Galaxy Unpacked 2025?

Samsung will almost certainly live stream its next Unpacked event, although it’s far too early to provide details. However, it’s a safe bet that you can watch Galaxy Unpacked 2025 on Samsung’s YouTube channel.

What will Samsung announce at Galaxy Unpacked 2025?

Flagship phones usually lead the parade of announcements at the first Unpacked event of the year, and 2025 appears to be no different.

Samsung will almost certainly announce the Galaxy S25 family at Unpacked, having already confirmed that the new phones will arrive in early 2025. We expect Samsung to offer the same models that normally make up its flagship range: a standard phone joined by the Galaxy S25 Plus and the premium Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Samsung has confirmed it will be using the Snapdragon 8 Elite, with leaks suggesting the new Qualcomm chipset will power each model. This differs from last year, when Samsung used a combination of Exynos and Qualcomm silicon in the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus. (The Galaxy S24 Ultra was exclusively equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.) It’s also a big deal because we benchmarked the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset in a Qualcomm-supplied reference device, and it really screwed up our speed and graphics tests . . It’s also a more power efficient chip, which could mean a big improvement in battery life for the S25 phones.

On the camera front, the Galaxy S25 Ultra could see an improved ultra-wide sensor and improved telephoto lenses that promise smoother zooming. Camera changes on the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus could be more modest.

We expect that the focus at Galaxy Unpacked will once again be on AI capabilities. Samsung rolled out Galaxy AI features during the January 2024 Unpacked, and they’ve played a big role in differentiating Samsung’s flagship phones from other handsets. We’ll likely hear about new Galaxy AI capabilities during Unpacked 2025, although details have yet to leak.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim

Samsung is rumored to be working on another member of the Galaxy S25 family: an ultra-thin version called the Galaxy S25 Slim. So far, the distinguishing feature of this rumored device is that it is said to be dramatically thinner than other Samsung flagships. Since the S24 is 7.6mm thin, we assume Samsung would try to bring this new phone closer in size to the Galaxy Z Fold 6. That foldable phone is 5.6 mm thin when unfolded.

Another Galaxy S25 Slim rumor indicates that the new phone should sport a 200MP main camera, matching the hardware specs of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. That could point to a phone closer in price to the $1,299 Ultra than the $799 standard model. Other details, such as which chipset Samsung would use, are less clear at this stage.

The Korean newspaper citing a January 22/23 date for Galaxy Unpacked 2025 also claims that the S25 Slim will appear at that event. That goes against other Galaxy S25 Slim rumors that claim the phone will debut at a separate event later in the spring or early summer.

Galaxy Z Flip FE

Rumors about cheaper foldable Samsung products have been circulating for a while. At some point last year we had heard talk of a Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE that would debut alongside the regular Samsung foldable and later in 2024 or during the 2025 Unpacked event.

There is no longer talk of a cheaper version of the Galaxy Z Fold, but rumors of another, cheaper foldable version have taken its place. Samsung could have a Galaxy Z Flip FE in the works, ideally a cheaper version of its $1,099 foldable flip phone.

There are few concrete details about the Galaxy Z Flip FE, other than the claim that it will launch sometime in 2025. However, like the Galaxy S25 Slim, most rumors suggest a launch date later in the year and not during the Unpacked event in January. Still, it is a potential new model that is on our radar.

One user interface 7

Let’s talk about something that will almost certainly take place at Unpacked 2025, if only because it’s already tied to the launch of the Galaxy S25. Samsung’s long-awaited One UI 7 interface, based on Android 15, is expected to launch with Samsung’s new phones, so the software could get some attention at Unpacked, especially if there are new features to highlight.

Samsung has only teased One UI 7 so far, which promises new interface elements and more integration of Galaxy AI into daily activities. Rumored additions include a notification summary feature and an expanded version of the Circle to Search tool that Samsung introduced with the Galaxy S24.

We could find out what’s in One UI 7 ahead of the launch of Galaxy Unpacked and the S25. Rumors claim that a beta will be released sometime in November.

The original Galaxy Ring just released in July, so it’s probably too early for a sequel, even though the Galaxy Ring 2 is rumored to arrive sooner than initially thought, which we think means before July 2025 and the one-year anniversary of the first. release of smart ring.

Samsung previewed the first Galaxy Ring at Unpacked 2024, so it’s possible the company will make time for an update, especially in the context of any new health tracking features it wants to show off. Otherwise, the Galaxy Ring 2 is rumored to be a thinner model with longer battery life and unspecified new capabilities.

Back at Unpacked 2023, executives from Qualcomm and Google appeared on stage to announce a partnership with Samsung on a mixed reality platform that would presumably result in new hardware such as a headset. At this summer’s Unpacked event, Google and Samsung promised a 2024 debut for the platform, with reports immediately focusing on a mixed-reality headset built by Samsung and powered by Qualcomm’s chips.

That headset has been pushed back to a 2025 release, with one report claiming it could debut in March. Even if that date holds true, we could get a sneak peek at Unpacked 2025, especially since some details about the specs have surfaced via a patent filing.

Samsung could also have another mixed reality surprise in store. Earlier this fall, Qualcomm’s Cristiano Amon suggested the trio was exploring the possibility of smart glasses, though that project may not be as far along as the rumored headset.
