Rutgers Lacrosse: 2 players honored with Big 10’s highest award

Two stars from the Rutgers men’s and women’s lacrosse teams, Shane Knobloch and Cassidy Spiles, were awarded the Big Ten Medal of Honor yesterday.

The Big Ten Medal of Honor is presented to one male and one female student-athlete from each Big Ten university who has excelled both on and off the field during their college years. It was the first award in intercollegiate athletics to use academic achievement as an equal measure of athletic achievement in determining who should receive the award. It is considered the conference’s most prestigious award.

Knobloch was a four-time All-American for the Scarlet Knights. Last season, he led the team in goals with 29 and was second on the team in assists with 11, giving him a total of 40 points this year. He also had five hat tricks this year. He was selected fourth overall, the highest ever for a Scarlet Knight, by the Carolina Chaos of the Premiere Lacrosse League.

Spilis finished her senior season with the all-time leading mark at Rutgers in career points (281), goals (262) and draw controls (313).
