Rules, Scoring Explained – NBC Chicago

The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris will feature the American sport of skateboarding for the second time in history (the first was during the 2020 Tokyo Games). The best skateboarders in the world will then ride through the City of Light.

But how will skateboarders be scored and a winner determined at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris? Let’s take a closer look:

What are the rules for skateboarding at the 2024 Olympics?

Skateboarding is divided into two disciplines: park and street.

Every skateboarding event has a preliminary and final round.

Skateboarders in the park events are given three 45-second rounds in each round to perform tricks on the obstacle course.

For the street events, skateboarders get two 45-second rounds to perform tricks on the obstacle course.

How will skateboarders score at the 2024 Olympics?

At park events, skateboarders are judged on the height and speed of their tricks, and on how well they use all the obstacles in the course. Skateboarders in the park events are given three 45-second laps and their best lap is used as a score against the other competitors.

Park courses will feature the classic bowls and bends that professional skateboarding has become known for.

In street events, competitors are also judged on the tricks they perform during each round, as well as how well they control their board during the two 45-second rounds and the five tricks they perform.

Team USA skateboarder Jagger Eaton won a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and said it was “the most surreal moment” of his life. But now Eaton is more focused than ever as he chases gold in Paris.
