Rugby Report 🏉 Battling defeat for Scunthorpe and mixed results for Lincolnshire Lancers

Scunthorpe Steel Sharks played in the league and two summer tournaments were also held during a busy rugby weekend involving clubs from Lincolnshire.

In the YML Hull Division, Scunthorpe Steel Sharks hosted league leaders East Hull on what proved to be a difficult afternoon in a 42-14 defeat at John Leggott College.

Still unbeaten, East Hull showed why they are top of the table with a great performance, scoring 24 points in the first half alone.

The Steel Sharks managed to get back into the game with an unused try just before half-time.

A crossfield kick from stand-off Ethan Taylor allowed winger Robbie Johnston to score the try.

In the first half, Martin Mather made his debut as a second-row substitute and put in a strong performance.

The second half saw more of the same from East Hull, who added a further three tries in an impressive performance both with and without the ball.

Scunthorpe refused to give up and showed great character as they managed to score two tries in the second half.

Hooker Joshua Rudkin saw a breakthrough in the defense and fired over from close range for Scunthorpe’s third try, while Henry Dawson added another conversion.

Scunthorpe Steel Sharks coach Chris Harrison was “extremely proud” of the performance against his side’s toughest opponents to date.
