Romano’s positive update on Ivan Toney

They already bought Joshua Zirkzee this summer, but it appears Man United are still willing to add a £50m international to their attacking line before the transfer window closes at the end of this month.

The focus at the moment appears to be on defensive reinforcements, with Erik ten Hag likely to be without Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof for the Community Shield match against Man City, and possibly beyond.

Man United’s pursuit of strikers shows real intent

The moves of Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt have been on hold for a while now, and as each day passes the need to sign the pair becomes more urgent. It is not entirely clear at this point what the delay is.

While defence remains a priority, it appears Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his board will approve the deal if the club can bring in an additional attacker.

According to Football Insider, the Red Devils are reportedly willing to make a bid for Brentford’s Ivan Toney. Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that he has not ruled out such a move.

Man United could make a bid for Ivan Toney before the transfer window closes

“I think there is still a chance that Ivan Toney will make a transfer this summer,” he said.

“There may be movements in the coming days and weeks, but for now there is nothing wrong.

“We have to see which clubs have concrete interest, because there are rumours that about ten different clubs are interested in him this summer.

“I don’t want to mention any names without any concrete updates, but it’s definitely still an open situation.”

It does seem that the battle for certain players, including Ivan Toney, is set to intensify as we enter the final weeks of the transfer window.

Brentford have had to lower the price significantly, which makes him more attractive to buying clubs.

He will need to get back on track quickly, however, as WhoScored reports he has scored just four since his comeback in January, none of which have come since February 17.
