Romano on Chelsea, Man Utd left

Chelsea are currently not pursuing the transfer of Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, who was also on Manchester United’s radar last summer but was deemed too expensive.

This is what Fabrizio Romano said while discussing the recent rumours about a transfer of Kerkez with CaughtOffside for his latest column in the Daily Briefing, where he gives us the latest information on Chelsea and Man Utd.

Chelsea appear to be content with the left-back positions for now, with Kerkez not a priority, despite the talented 20-year-old having impressed greatly during his time with the Cherries.

United seemed more interested in Kerkez, but decided this summer that the Hungarian international was too expensive for them. A deal never materialised, but it could mean that he is a player to watch again in the future.

It could become easier to strike a deal for Kerkez for a more reasonable fee as his contract nears its expiry date. Interestingly, Romano says that Bournemouth have not yet confirmed when his current deal will expire.

Kerkez transfer: Romano on Chelsea and Man United links

“I know there are some stories about interest in Milos Kerkez,” Romano said. “First of all, Bournemouth are not confirming how long his contract will run for, but it certainly won’t end in 2025, so the situation is under control from their point of view.

“There are no more contacts with Chelsea now, from what I understand – also because Marc Cucurella and Renato Veiga are doing very well. Kerkez was one of the options for Man United in the first part of the summer transfer window, but he was considered too expensive at the time.”

Kerkez looks like a player with a bright future, so this certainly won’t be the last we hear about him and the bigger clubs. United also certainly need to strengthen the injury-prone and unreliable Luke Shaw.
