Rohit Sharma returns, champ Manu Bhaker responds Tendulkar and Gambhir win his first fight

Welcome to our special segment, DRS or the Daily Review System. InsideSport brings you the best cricket stories from the previous day that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy lives.

It was a historic day for the whole of India. And it was. Manu Bhaker’s name resonated across the country as she became the first athlete from the Indian contingent to win a medal at the Paris Olympics. The Jhajjar-born athlete won a bronze in the 10m air pistol shooting. In addition, the men’s cricket team won their 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka by taking a 2-0 lead. However, it was not all sunshine and roses as the women’s team failed to clear the final hurdle and lost the Women’s Asia Cup Final to the Lankans.

Rohit Sharma is back!

India ODI and Test team captain Rohit Sharma has arrived in Sri Lanka for the upcoming three-match ODI series starting on August 2. Rohit, along with Shreyas Iyer, returned to Mumbai from a holiday just days after being named in the ODI squad by Gautam Gambhir, along with Virat Kohli. Nine members of the squad were already in Sri Lanka, with KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav joining recently.

Manu Bhaker thanks GOAT of cricket!

Manu Bhaker received a lot of praise and applause for her historic achievement. Apart from a voice call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, many cricketers were effusive about the shooter. Among many, Sachin Tendulkar also acknowledged Manu Bhaker, who then thanked the GOAT of cricket for his words of encouragement.

IND 2 SL 0

And with that, Gautam Gambhir’s era as the new head coach has started with a bang. After winning the opening T20I, Suryakumar Yadav and his men won the second match by 7 wickets with 9 balls to spare. Bowlers were again good and cameos from Jaiswal and Pandya sealed the deal. The third T20I is scheduled for Tuesday (July 30).

Heartbreak for Harmanpreet, Joy for Athapaththu

The stage seemed set for a dominant Team India, who were gunning for their eighth Women’s Asia Cup title. They made 165 and were hoping to defend the target with ease until Chamari Athapaththu and her players did the unthinkable. In front of their packed home crowd, the Lankans made history and outplayed India, who were given a reality check ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup later this year.

Ben ‘record breaking’ Stokes

Ben Stokes redefined Test batting with a blistering 24-ball fifty, the fastest ever by an Englishman. The England captain’s innings against the West Indies was a masterpiece of aggression as he smashed the bowlers in all directions. The incredible feat also places him joint third on the list of fastest Test fifties in history. Stokes and Duckett’s opening stand laid the platform for a dominant England victory, wrapping up the series 3-0.

Taste your own medicine, R Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin, almost a modern-day pioneer of bowling out non-strikers, was on the receiving end in a TNPL match. While batting for Dindigul Dragons, the bowler warned Ashwin to stay in his crease, mirroring the tactic Ashwin famously used against Jos Buttler. The incident caused hilarity and highlighted the irony of the situation. Ashwin, known for his aggressive tactics, experienced first-hand the pressure batsmen felt when faced with a similar threat.
