Rockstar leaks more clues to a Red Dead Redemption PC remaster

It’s long been suspected (if not officially confirmed) that the original Red Dead Redemption would be getting a PC remaster in the near future. We’ve already seen a description of the PC version briefly pop up on the PlayStation Store (of all places). And earlier this year, a curious fan of the studio who keeps an eye on Rockstar’s launcher backend found similar game descriptions buried among the metadata. Yesterday, that same practice turned up yet another clue: the game’s Steam app number.

The tidbit comes from Xitter user “TezFunz2,” who has engaged in a sort of cyber-stakeout of Rockstar’s online properties. The Steam app number itself isn’t much information. You can preview and follow the game right now via Steamdb, if you want. But it won’t show any real info until the store page actually goes live (in theory, anyway). Still, it does count as another step toward the 2010 open-world western finally coming to PC. We already know from the leak on the PlayStation store that the port will “include PC-specific improvements including support for higher resolutions and framerates.”

There was a brief moment when it looked like the rootin’ tootin’ remaster would be shelved, following the disappointing release of the remastered GTA Trilogy, which was horribly buggy and visually distorted (it even had to be pulled from sale briefly to remove the unlicensed music). But it looks like work on it is resuming after all.

It’s worth noting that a developer can add apps to Steam as untitled items long before they’re released, so that doesn’t necessarily mean a remaster will be out anytime soon. But it’s been a year since similar ports released for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. And 14 years since the game first appeared on PS3. Maybe that’s enough time to sort out a PC version?

Anyway, yeah. Leaks are fun. The PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 was even leaked on LinkedIn back in 2018 (more like LEAKEDIn, right?).
