Richard Gere verbally abused by Savannah Guthrie after giving her the middle finger on ‘Today’ show

He wasn’t that friendly.

Richard Gere shocked Today host Savannah Guthrie when he started their interview by sticking his middle finger at her.

“You just made an obscene gesture on this family morning show!” Guthrie, 52, told Gere.

She held up papers to hide his hand from the audience and added, “I’m beeping for you!”

It seemed out of character for the “Pretty Woman” star, 75.

But Gere did a scene from his upcoming Paramount+/Showtime spy series, “The Agency.”

To get a taste of the show, “Today” showed a clip of Gere on “The Agency,” but the clip was cut before he apparently flipped the bird. So he took it upon himself to do it live and finish the scene.

“You didn’t show it, but I did that in the piece!” Gere explained. “That was the clip!”

Guthrie countered, “That was the clip, but we cut that part out. But then you did it live!”

Gere defended himself by saying, “I could see that, but without it it didn’t make any sense!”

He later joked: “My hand did that, I have no control over it!”

Gere isn’t the only major star behaving badly on “Today.” Cher recently appeared on the show and dropped a profanity, which Guthrie pointed out.

“You know, Cher was here throwing an f-bomb yesterday, so I don’t know what’s happening!” she continued.

The day before, Cher, 78, dropped an F-bomb while discussing her divorce from her late ex-husband Sonny Bono.

Cher, who just released her new memoir, spoke with Hoda Kotb about how she sought advice from Lucille Ball as she struggled with the idea of leaving Bono amid their marital problems.

When Kotb, 60, asked what Ball told her, Cher replied: “I can’t say it on TV. Do you want it to beep?

When Kotb assured her they would make it squeaky clean, Cher continued, “I knew her when I was little. I said, ‘Lucy, I’m calling you because, as far as I know, there has never been a situation like yours outside of me,'” Cher explained, noting that Ball famously left Desi Arnaz in 1960.

“She said, ‘Fuck him, you’re the one with the talent,’” Cher said.

Kotb and other members of the “Today” team behind the camera audibly gasped and laughed in response to Cher dropping the profanity.

“Okay, we didn’t get to seven seconds, but we’ll get that on the next feed,” Kotb said.

“Well, you said I could!” Cher noted.

“I should have made it beep myself,” Kotb said, laughing. “Bleep!”

Gere’s new show, “The Agency,” premieres Nov. 29 on Paramount+/Showtime.
