Riccio offers the latest on the Warriors star duo’s immediate future…

The Daily Telegraph David Riccio believes the Warriors will have to make some tough decisions regarding their two best players ahead of the 2025 season.

Following their 66-6 thrashing at the hands of the Gold Coast Titans, the Warriors were dealt another blow after it was revealed that talismanic halfback Shaun Johnson suffered a nasty Achilles tendon that will again sideline him for at least a month.

In addition, fans are concerned that Addin Fonua-Blake could be released from his contract earlier than expected, with the Warriors’ finals hopes quickly beginning to fade.

said Riccio SEN that Warriors management is trying to subtly navigate the immediate future of their stars.

“Shaun Johnson’s future will be fascinating,” Riccio continued SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“He has been out for at least four weeks now due to an Achilles injury and I can tell you that there is an offer on the table.

“The chances of him playing are getting smaller by the day.

“Time will tell what happens there, but the Warriors have three capable halves.

“CEO Cameron George has quickly debunked the rumors about (Parramatta playmaker) Dylan Brown (and) there has been no approach whatsoever from Brown’s management.

“(Johnson) now has a better chance than ever before of being around again next season.”

Johnson enjoyed the best year of his career in 2023, but the 33-year-old has failed to match that magical season, which saw him narrowly miss out on his first Dally M medal.

Riccio believes the news surrounding Fonua-Blake, who will join Cronulla in 2025, is much more positive for Warriors supporters.

“For now, he remains a Warrior and is determined to complete his career at the club (by the end of 2024),” Riccio continued.

“His destination club, Cronulla Sharks, have no salary cap or room to sign him.

‘Addin Fonua-Blake will handle the remainder of his contact with the Warriors.’

The Warriors have a chance to bounce back in front of their home crowd when they host the Brisbane Broncos at Go Media Stadium on Saturday.
