Riccardo Calafiori injury update from Fabrizio Romano

Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori and the injury that forced him out of international football early.

The former Bologna defender suffered a nasty knock during Italy’s win over France and there were some concerns about what this would mean for his availability for the Gunners.

However, Romano has explained on his official account on X, formerly Twitter, that his sources insist there is nothing serious wrong with Calafiori, and that this is more a case of Arsenal being cautious about his fitness after the initial knock he suffered in the match against France…

Calafiori looks like a promising summer signing for Arsenal, although we haven’t seen much of him on the pitch yet as he adapts to the Emirates Stadium.

The 22-year-old will undoubtedly make a big impact for Arsenal once he is fully up to speed, although there will still be plenty of competition for the left-back position due to the presence of the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jakub Kiwior, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney.

Jurrien Timber can also play at left back and it will be because of the enormous luck the young Dutchman had around this time last year that Gooners were a little nervous about the news about Calafiori, his apologies for that.

Timber joined Arsenal from Ajax, but barely featured for the North Londoners last season due to a serious injury he sustained on his Premier League debut.

Mikel Merino also joined AFC this summer, but was injured in training straight away, delaying his debut by a few weeks. So fans will be hoping their club can avoid something similar with Calafiori. He seems to be an extraordinary talent and fits perfectly with Mikel Arteta’s style of play.

The Italian international showed his worth again in the victory over France, even though the evening ended in disappointment for him personally.
