Ric Flair introduces new name to break his championship record, other than John Cena

Ric Flair is considered one of the greatest legends in wrestling history. “The Nature Boy” has a successful professional career that spans almost half a century, during which he has won over 40 championships, including 16 world titles recognized by the WWE. But why do we say recognized by the WWE? Well, because Ric Flair has always claimed that he has reigned more often.

WWE is responsible for Flair’s eight NWA World Championships, six WCW World Championships, and two WWF World Championships. However, they don’t count his reigns with the NWA and WCW, as some of those victories were not televised. But despite WWE only counting his 16 world championship victories, no other superstar has been able to surpass that record. John Cena comes closest, as he also has 16 world championship wins. However, there is another superstar, according to Ric Flair, who could win the title. Who is that, you ask? Well, it is none other than Randy Orton.

On the Busted Open Podcast, Ric Flair spoke with Dave LaGreca, Tommy Dreamer, and Mark Henry about all things professional wrestling. One major topic that Flair follows wherever he goes is his record-breaking championship reign, so it was no wonder that the legend was asked who he thinks can break his record. While everyone expected him to just say Cena’s name and move on, he added another contender who is truly a future Hall of Famer, Randy Orton.

Flair said: “Another guy that, in my eyes, deserves to be world champion or break that record is Randy Orton. Randy’s done well and he’s doing it. Just think about it, Mark, all of you, to be at the top for 20 years, not, not, not just good, but 20 years at the top like John and Randy. That’s a long time to be at the top.”

The WWE superstar has 25 years of experience in the business, during which he has set a number of records that will hardly be surpassed in the future. “The Viper” has won 20 titles in the company, 14 of which are world championships. Orton began his path to legend at SummerSlam 2004, where he defeated Chris Benoit to win his first World Heavyweight Championship at just 24 years old. He broke the previous record, held by Brock Lesnar, who accomplished such a feat at the age of 25. Today, almost two decades later, Orton’s record still stands.

Orton is currently in a feud with The Bloodline on Friday Night SmackDown. At the same time, “The Viper” tried to add a new feat to his record, namely becoming King of the Ring. However, the fighter was unable to defeat Gunther in the finals of the tournament. But there are several speculations that he will soon become a heel against Cody Rhodes. So maybe Orton can be the one to break Flair’s record after all. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
