Rianne Malixi defeats Asterisk Talley again, adds US Women’s Am to US Girls’ Junior title

TULSA, Okla. — Rianne Malixi defeated Asterisk Talley 3-2 to win the U.S. Women’s Amateur at Southern Hills three weeks ago on Sunday. after defeating Talley in the US Girls’ Junior final.

Last month, 17-year-old Malixi, originally from the Philippines, defeated Talley (8 and 7) in the U.S. girls junior tournament at El Caballero in Tarzana, California, in the biggest championship match in the tournament’s history.

Malixi is the second player to win both events in the same year, following Eun Jeong Seong in 2016. She has verbally committed to play for Duke and plans to begin playing at the university in 2025.

Talley, 15, of Chowchilla, Calif., led by 1 on Saturday after the first 18 holes of the 36-hole championship match were moved up a day because of expected rain on Sunday.

Malixi was 3 up after 26 holes, and Talley took the next three holes. They halved the 30th with pars, Malixi won the next three with birdies and closed it out with a par half on the par-5 34th.

Talley and Sarah Lim won the US Women’s Amateur Four-Ball in San Antonio in May.
