The contract offer, made over the weekend, comes after the Canadiens released Norlinder to the open market in June.

Norlinder was drafted by the Canadiens in the third round of the 2019 NHL Draft and played the 2023-24 season for the Rockets, recording two goals and seven assists for nine points in 50 games.

Since arriving in North America during the 2021-22 season, Norlinder has played six games for Montreal and 123 regular season games for the Rocket.

Norlinder’s former team (MoDo Hockey) – who do not have the funds to sign the Swedish defender – started a crowdfunding campaign on Monday to try to sign him. The campaign raised over 400,000 SEK (equivalent to $40,000 USD) in the first ten hours.
