Redvers’ First Homecoming Weekend: A Party to Remember – DiscoverEstevan.com

The town of Redvers came alive with its first-ever Homecoming weekend celebration. Residents from near and far gathered for a joyful community reunion during the long Canada Day weekend.

The event kicked off on Friday with a 14-team Slo-Pitch tournament and continued with various children’s activities, including a toonie swim meet and playgrounds.

“The fire department had filled a number of mineral baths for the children and Today’s Electronics provided sand and water toys all weekend,” the event organizer said.

The library hosted historical exhibits and children’s activities. Highlights included a car show with over 60 exhibits, a trade show in the Rec Centre and an Art Show & Sale in the Golden Age Centre.

“Visitors could sit down for a rest, enjoy a drink, view the art and then hop on the Town of Redvers Transit Van for a tour of Redvers on Saturday and Sunday.”

Saturday saw a popular Kids Mini Tractor Derby and a firework show by the fire department.

“We gave out some prizes to our time trial winners and a tractor pull. We want to thank all the families who participated with us. We learned a lot and hope to streamline the derby next year.”

Sunday’s Ranch Rodeo drew a large crowd, including a team from Thunder Bay, ON.

“All the teams showed off their skills in the arena and entertained the spectators. A ranch rodeo is a little different than a traditional one, and everyone enjoyed it.”

New events included a “horse race” with volunteers in inflatable costumes.

“We had 8 volunteer racers who put on a show for the crowd, running an obstacle course in giant inflatable horse costumes. Our volunteers were such great sports, we are grateful that they agreed to participate. Our 2024 Horse Race Champion was Matthew Magotiaux, who took home the trophy and a winner’s hat.”

The weekend concluded with a catered dinner and a performance by Quinton Blair.

“Quinton Blair performed a live show at the Rec Centre which lasted until the early hours of the morning. Quinton gained quite a few new fans in Redvers as his performance was one for the books.”

Monday was all about Canada Day traditions, including a pancake breakfast by the Knights of Columbus and the unveiling of the Hometown Highway signs.

“Family members of each were present to say a few words to those in attendance. These signs were donated by Bill & Jan Murray, and once permanent placement is determined, Bedecs Ready Mix will donate some of the cement for the posts.”

The fire department’s Kids Fireman Rodeo and a parade with more than 60 floats completed the day.

“Advantage Co-op generously donated a giant Canada Day Cake for all of our visitors to enjoy after the parade.”

Organizers emphasized the success of the Homecoming event, which was a result of community collaboration.

“Homecoming was a perfect example of how the collaboration of different entities can create a successful event for the entire community. Those who would like to get involved in the community as a whole can join us at our next meeting at the Town Office (25 Railway Avenue, Redvers, SK) on July 31st at 12:00 noon.”
