Red Sox reportedly agree to a contract with Journeyman Reliever

The Red Sox made their first infield addition of the offseason on Thursday.

According to FanSided’s Robert Murray, Boston has agreed to a contract with journeyman Justin Wilson.

No, it’s not Juan Soto, but a sign of where the priorities lie for Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow as he looks to overhaul the pitching staff.

Wilson, 37, has been around for a while, spending time with the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds over the past decade. The left-hander retired from baseball in 2023 but returned last season and made 60 appearances for the Reds, posting a 5.59 ERA and 4.73 FIP while ranking in the 95th percentile of chase percentage.

It’s a major league deal, with Audacy’s Rob Bradford confirming it’s “in the ballpark” of the $1.5 million contract he signed with Cincy last offseason.
