Real Madrid are still very interested in the potential transfer of Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Canadian international has been a star player for Bayern for years, but his contract at the Allianz Arena is about to expire. Real are ready to make the move.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside In his latest column for the Daily Briefing, Romano explained that Los Blancos have a deadline for negotiations over Davies, and are keen to sign him if he still hasn’t signed a new contract with Bayern by January.

However, Romano has also indicated that Madrid will only complete this deal on their terms, with the 23-year-old perhaps no longer seen as an urgent priority given they have just tied down current left-back Ferland Mendy to a new contract.

Davies transfer: Real Madrid could resume talks in January

Romano discussed the latest news on the Davies to Real Madrid saga, saying: “Real Madrid’s interest in Alphonso Davies remains high. Davies is on their list, but it will depend on the contract talks between Bayern and Alphonso; if he doesn’t renew the contract before January, Real Madrid will try to move forward in the talks to reach an agreement and bring him to the club.

“They are not in a hurry now, also because Ferland Mendy has just signed a new deal and so it is something they would only do on their own terms.”

Real have been smart in the transfer market recently and Davies would certainly be a good addition to bolster their squad with a player who is both young and experienced.

Bayern will do everything they can not to lose such an important player, so it will be interesting to see how far they will step up contract negotiations with him in the coming months.
