Raygun made a frighteningly accurate prediction about media hype surrounding Olympic routine breaking 12 months before he went viral

RAYGUN made a frighteningly accurate prediction about her Olympic routine in a university research paper.

The 36-year-old Australian went viral at Paris 2024 with her memorable but unspectacular dance performance.

Raygun – real name Rachael Gunn – tried to impress the judges and fans with her kangaroo jumping, wriggling snake and the ‘sprinkler’.

However, the nine judges scored her one-sided battle with Logistx 18-0 in favor of the American, while videos of her efforts quickly spread on social media.

But now it has emerged that Raygun has made a breakthrough in her home country thanks to her Olympic debut.

In 2023, Associate Professor Gunn published an article entitled ‘The Australian Breaking Scene and the Olympics: The Possibilities and Politics of Sportification’.

The 18-page research paper detailed how the Paris Olympics provided the perfect opportunity for media hype around breaking news, though even she could never have anticipated the amount of attention her performance would receive.

One of Raygun’s interviewees in the newspaper, Lowe Napalan, said: “The great thing about the Olympics, and the best thing about it, is the media attention.

“So we can repeat what happened with (…) Rock Steady (Crew), the whole media frenzy, and then everybody started to break.

“So there’s a chance that could happen again with the Olympics. And that’s exactly what we want to use to get those numbers out into the community.”

Raygun’s performance even caught the attention of music icon Adele, who took a break from her concert in Munich to talk about the Australian singer.

She said: “I’m not saying anything, but I think this is the best thing the Olympics have ever seen.

“Has anyone seen the breakdancing lady? I didn’t even know breakdancing was an Olympic sport now.

“That’s f***ing amazing. Honestly. Aaron, my percussionist, is peeing his pants laughing just thinking about it.”

Raygun’s sudden, unexpected global fame has led to suggestions of TV appearances, especially as she has now signed with a major agency.

But she also faced a lot of horrible insults and hatred after her participation in the Olympic Games.

Some even outright claimed that her routine was part of a conspiracy theory to deliberately underperform to gain attention as part of a “social experiment.”

However, Raygun responded “sadly” to her critics via social media with an emotional video.

She said, “Hello everyone, Raygun here.

“First of all I want to thank all the people who supported me.

“I really appreciate the positivity and I’m glad I was able to bring some joy into your lives. That’s what I was hoping for.

“I didn’t realize that this would also open the door to so much hate, which has honestly been quite devastating.

“I went out and had fun, but I also took it very seriously.

“I worked really hard to prepare for the Olympics, and I gave it my all. I really did.”

“I feel honoured to have been part of the Australian Olympic team and to be present for Breaking’s Olympic debut.

“What the other athletes have achieved is just phenomenal.”

Gunn received support from the Australian cricket team, who said on Twitter that she was “always welcome”.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Australian Olympic President Anna Meares also supported her.

They claimed she represented the Australian ‘give it a try’ mentality.

However, Raygun won’t get a chance to make amends at the next Olympics, as breaking has been removed from the list of sports for LA 2028.
