Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine arrested after being accused of violating the terms of his release

Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of violating his terms of supervised release, federal authorities said.

Tekashi 6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, was arrested on a warrant issued by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, court records show.

He was arraigned Tuesday afternoon and pleaded not guilty, court records said.

His attorney, Lance Lazzaro, said in a statement that the rapper was charged with three technical violations related to his supervised release.

“We are confident that every specification will be rejected,” Lazzaro said.

In 2019, Tekashi 6ix9ine was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to racketeering, gun crimes and drug trafficking. He was also sentenced to five years of supervised release.

He had been facing a maximum sentence of 47 years in prison, but prosecutors recommended a lesser sentence after he cooperated with them and helped lock up two leaders of a violent New York gang.
