Rangers 1 – 4 Lyon

Lyon captain Alexandre Lacazette scored a wonder goal as he and Malick Fofana scored twice in a punishing 4-1 Europa League defeat for Rangers at Ibrox.

Vlacav Cerny missed a sitter that would have given Rangers an early lead, while Lyon took the lead moments later through Fofana’s cool finish after Rayan Cherki’s excellent close control and assist.

Rangers hit back almost immediately, with Tom Lawrence scoring his second goal in consecutive games. The midfielder took advantage after Cyriel Dessers failed to convert following Corentin Tolisso’s disastrous header back towards goal.

But Lyon were back ahead before the match was halfway through after Connor Barron’s blind pass was held by Fofana, who dribbled into the area and squared up for Lacazette to calmly head home.

The highlight of the first half was yet to come when Lacazette scored a screamer from outside the penalty area.

The Lyon captain crossed from the left before unleashing a right-foot strike that flew over Jack Butland and into the top corner in first-half added time.

Fofana grabbed Lyon’s fourth in the second half, and the French side could have scored even more on what turned out to be a tough night for Rangers at Ibrox.
