Quinn Ewers is honest about Arch Manning not transferring

Quinn Ewers believes Arch Manning did the right thing by not transferring from the Texas Longhorns.

Manning spent last season glued to the bench, buried on the depth chart behind Ewers and QB2 Maalik Murphy. The former five-star recruit was promoted to QB2 when Murphy transferred from Austin, and it’s clear he’s Steve Sarkisian’s QB of the future.

However, Manning will have to sit on the bench for at least one more season after Ewers decided to return for another season of college football instead of heading to the NFL.

Quinn Ewers discusses Arch Manning’s decision not to transfer.

Arch Manning could have jumped into the portal as soon as Ewers announced he would be returning. That’s not what the former prep phenom did. He decided to stay and develop on the bench for another season. Ewers thinks it will be a very positive decision for Arch.

“I think he understands that he’s most ready for this when he gets to the NFL. I think Coach Sark (Steve Sarkisian) does the best job of getting quarterbacks ready for the NFL and developing guys. (Manning) will be playing in his third year. He’s going to be more than comfortable running the offense, and it’s just a great fit for him,” Ewers told The Athletic when discussing Manning’s decision to stay as QB2.

The Texas star passer also praised Arch Manning’s patience, adding, “I think his actions definitely show the kid has patience, that’s for sure. I know it’s tough because when I went to Ohio State, it was obviously tough to get behind somebody.”

A lot of college football fans want to bitch and moan about Arch not seeing the field. I get it. He came out of high school as perhaps the most hyped football recruit in the history of the game. Guys with that kind of noise around them usually make plays right away.

Arch redshirted last year and threw five passes for 30 yards. Many thought Ewers would head to the NFL, but with him back in Austin, Arch will have to settle for the QB2 role.

There is nothing wrong with that. Have some patience, let the young man develop and next year he should be more than ready to roll into Steve Sarkisian’s offense.
