Quincy Hall shows sheer courage to win Olympic 400m title

Quincy Hall became the fourth-fastest 400-meter runner in history on Wednesday when he captured Olympic gold in 43.40 seconds, ending a 16-year drought for the U.S. in the event. He credited “perseverance” for getting him across the finish line.

The 26-year-old jumped across the finish line to beat Britain’s Matthew Hudson-Smith, who set a new European record with 43.44 seconds, while Zambia’s Muzala Samukonga took bronze with a time of 43.74 seconds.

For the first time ever, five athletes ran under 44 seconds in the same race.
