The 21st Judicial District Attorney’s Office is investigating a case in which an individual disrupted a court hearing by showing pornographic videos on Webex, District Attorney Dan Rubinstein confirmed Tuesday.

Rubinstein said he wasn’t sure how many cases or hearings were involved, but the problem is not limited to the 21st Judicial District, which includes Mesa County.

Cisco’s Webex is a video conferencing product that Colorado courts use to allow people to appear virtually.

According to the company’s website, Webex “provides a safe, secure connection for courts and correctional facilities.”

“Enable safe, efficient communications between courts and correctional facilities with secure videoconferencing for attorney visits, court hearings, and other legal needs,” the website states.

Brian Flynn, chief judge of the 21st Judicial District, said at a hearing Tuesday that the district will implement stricter security measures for Webex, with people being held in a waiting room for screening before being allowed into the virtual courtroom.

“Someone disrupted Webex by showing pornographic videos, so we had to lock everything down,” Flynn said.
