Portsmouth: Man banned from driving after e-scooter accident

Mr Fletcher said Pedelty ran a red light and this was “very clearly visible”.

The court heard Pedelty had 10 previous convictions and was disqualified from the road in 2021 after drink-driving.

In mitigation, Roni Pittman said he had gone on the e-scooter to “clear his head” and reported to the police after a media call.

“He wrongly failed to appreciate the seriousness of the incident at the time,” she said.

“When the media call was made, he was shocked and appalled by the injuries this lady had sustained.

“He accepts his actions and this incident.”

Addressing him, Presiding Magistrate Ryan Rutlidge criticized him for not stopping to check on his victim’s welfare, but noted his “remorse”.

He made Pedelty the subject of an 18-month community order, requiring him to take part in 20 rehabilitation days and alcohol treatment.

The sentence also included charges of riding the e-scooter without insurance, failing to stop after an accident and failing to stop at a red light, which he also admitted.
