Police say five suspects arrested in the Portland shooting are members of the Outlaws motorcycle club

PORTLAND (WGME) — Portland police have arrested five more people this summer in the Forest Avenue brawl that left a woman dead.

Police say all five suspects are members of the Outlaws motorcycle club.

They are each charged with one count of conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, along with two counts of aggravated assault.

Portland police have not yet released mugshots of the five arrested suspects.

They are Kaleb Cidre of Windham, Jason Keenan of Bath, James Moody of Bowdoin, Caleb Pelkey of Portland and Nathan Walsh of Lewiston.

Police are still looking for a sixth suspect: Kristofer Haken of Londonderry, New Hampshire.

Portland police say he is associated with the Outlaws motorcycle club, is considered dangerous and may be armed.

Police say this all started on July 30 at the Brookside Bar in Westbrook.

Two different motorcycle clubs, the FSU motorcycle club and the Higher Calling Club, got into a fight.

Police say punches were thrown and the Outlaws became involved.

After the incident at the Brookside Bar, the suspects, believed to be members of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club, came armed to Forest Avenue, where they allegedly struck three members of the FSU motorcycle club across the street.

According to testimony, Susan McHugh fired a shot to stop the attack.

Prosecutors say the case escalated when Aaron Karp fired nine shots, with one bullet fatally striking McHugh in the chest.

“Ms. McHugh would be alive today if they hadn’t gone to that Meineke lot,” District Attorney Jen Ackerman said. “But they confronted Mr. McHugh, Mr. Holmes and Mr. Freschette. And they brought weapons. And he brought a gun.”

Defense attorneys argued that self-defense should be considered.

“The Outlaws did not initiate this incident,” said attorney Verne Paradie. “Mr. Holmes and his FSU gang literally started robbing, stealing and assaulting people who happened to be friends with the Outlaws. They started this.”

Police used a dashcam and surveillance footage to identify Karp.

They would not say how they identified the other six suspects.

The case is still under investigation. The five accused suspects have now been released on bail. Karp is being held without bail.

CBS13 conducted a criminal background check on the five suspects.

Four of them have criminal records, some of them long.

The youngest suspect had never been charged with a crime until now.
