Pittsburgh Steelers captain does not provide bulletin board material to commanders

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward won’t make the same mistake that Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt made earlier this season when discussing the Washington Commanders’ offense.

Before Cincinnati’s Week 3 battle with Washington, Taylor-Britt exclaimed that the Commanders had run a “college offense” led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, who came back to haunt him when the Bengals lost that game with Lost 38-33.

Heyward was asked if he noticed the same tendencies that Taylor-Britt did during his most recent episode Not just football podcast, and the Steelers veteran quickly shut that story down.

“I would never say something stupid like that,” Heyward said. “But man, I think when you look at them, you respect that offensive guy. You respect what they do. Zach Ertz plays big. They got pieces that man, you gotta respect who you’re playing. Calling It’s a violation of the college, I guess that’s not your homework. I think it’s just…somebody said it and ran with it, but man, college offense or not, they take care of the ball and they score touchdowns.”

After finishing the 2023 campaign with a 4-13 record, the Commanders have rebounded in a major way with Daniels at the helm as they currently sit at 7-2 and top the NFC East.

As a team, Washington is averaging the third-highest yards (392.0) and points (29.2) per game this season, while Daniels, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, is the runaway favorite to win Offensive Rookie . the Year with 1,945 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions through the air, while also adding 459 yards and two scores on the ground.

The Steelers’ defense has also performed as one of the best units in the league this year, allowing just 310.3 yards and 14.9 points per game, but Heyward knows they will have their hands full on Sunday.

“This offense is pretty special,” Heyward said. “They don’t turn the ball over much. I think they’ve had about three or four turnovers? Having Brian Robinson, having Austin Ekeler, Jeremy (McNichols) and then having a wide receiver in Terry McLaurin, that relieves a lot of stress. But you can’t take away from what Jayden Daniels is doing now. Successful in college, came to do the same thing with throwing and running, he knows how to make it happen that really sticks out is just his poise.”

Pittsburgh’s acquisitions of wide receiver Mike Williams and pass rusher Preston Smith could provide a nice boost to the weekend, but Washington’s own acquisition of star cornerback Marshon Lattimore could further muddy the waters for the Steelers.
