GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — The Little League Softball World Series kicks off Sunday at Stallings Stadium in Elm Street Park.

Teams from all over the world come to Greenville. Last year, the Pitt County team lost the championship game. Six of those players are returning this year.

The team has been practicing at the Sara Law Complex in Winterville and will play games in the coming evenings.

On Wednesday, a police escort will take the team to the ECU dorms. “It would mean a lot because I won the softball World Series for my county and also for my state,” Emma Pilgreen said. “So I feel good about it. I think it would be a real accomplishment because last year Brooke and I were on the Southeast team and we came in second in the championship. So I think if we came back and won four times, we’d be North Carolina instead of Southeast because we’re playing here in our hometown,” Aurora Edwards said.
