Pine Ridge man convicted of assault says he apologized and ‘would do better to move on’

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – Jaden Poor Bear, 31, of Pine Ridge was sentenced to 40 months in prison Monday afternoon.

Twenty months are being served for assault causing serious bodily harm stemming from an incident in March 2023 in which Poor Bear stabbed his cousin.

Twenty months will be served for aiding and abetting an assault resulting in grievous bodily harm following an incident in January this year in which another man suffered a skull fracture and brain haemorrhage after being hit with a baseball bat.

Poor Bear told the judge that he apologized for his part in both situations that led to his arrest and that he would do better to move on.

Before sentencing, the judge told Poor Bear she hoped he could better himself.
