PIL unveils sustainability report for 2023

Pacific International Lines (PIL) published the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report for 2023, underscoring a robust commitment to pioneering greener shipping solutions, enhancing community engagement, and fortifying governance and ethical standards.

Amid the global push towards decarbonization, PIL has anchored its environmental efforts in the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) 2023 GHG Strategy.

The shipping company has embarked on constructing LNG dual-fuel vessels, with plans for their delivery phased through 2024 and 2025. These vessels represent a leap forward in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and highlight PIL’s strategy to adapt to cleaner energy sources.

Furthermore, PIL’s engagement in Green Shipping Corridor trials in collaboration with giant port and terminal operators, like DP World and PSA Singapore, showcases its proactive approach to foster innovation in maritime logistics, aiming for a seamless transition to sustainable shipping practices.

Additionally, PIL has taken significant strides in strengthening its social commitments. The company has revamped its corporate culture with an updated Culture Playbook and conducted its first-ever Employee Engagement Survey to better align its practices with employee needs and well-being.

Notably, a new fund has been established to support global community initiatives, reflecting PIL’s dedication to its employees and the wider communities.

On the governance front, PIL has introduced an integrated compliance program covering critical areas such as anti-bribery, sanctions compliance, competition compliance, and data protection.

This framework ensures that all operations adhere to the highest standards of integrity and legal compliance. Furthermore, the launch of a Supplier Code of Conduct sets a benchmark for all of PIL’s suppliers, ensuring that the carrier’s stringent ESG standards are upheld throughout its supply chain.

Furthermore, with the inauguration of the PIL Academy, the company aims to nurture talent and supporting career development within the maritime industry. This educational initiative is designed to equip both sea-based and shore-based employees with essential skills and knowledge to navigate the challenges of a rapidly evolving global market.

Meanwhile, PIL noted it has been honored with several awards, celebrating its achievements in creating a more efficient and sustainable shipping line.
