PGA to allow LIV players to play Ryder Cup

The PGA and LIV are moving closer together, as confirmed by the statement released by the PGA of America on Thursday, announcing that it will “pardon” and admit players who left for Saudi Arabia for the Ryder Cup and the PGA Championship.

Under this agreement, American players playing in the Saudi circuit fall under the PGA umbrella and are eligible for the U.S. Ryder Cup team. Examples include Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson.

Spaniards Jon Rahm, who has been heavily criticised for accepting exorbitant fees from LIV, and Sergio García are not affected as they rely on the European circuit to compete in the Ryder Cup.

“To ensure that the PGA Championship continues to offer the strongest field in golf and that the U.S. Ryder Cup Team continues to have access to the best American players, the PGA of America Board of Directors has determined that LIV Golf players will be eligible for both.

Going forward, all LIV Golf players are eligible to compete in the PGA Championship and any US player who qualifies for the Ryder Cup on points or is named to the US team as a captain’s choice is eligible to compete. This is in line with LIV Golfers who have competed in the PGA Championship the past two years.

Brooks Koepka was a member of the US Ryder Cup team last year,” the statement said. With this statement, there is still talk of a rapprochement of positions between the organizations of the best golf circuits, such as the new edition of “The Match”, which will compete against the Saudi and American circuits in Las Vegas.

The Rules of Golf are a set of rules and standard procedures by which the sport of golf is played. They are written and administered jointly by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the governing body of golf worldwide, except in the United States and Mexico, which are governed by the United States Golf Association.

An expert committee, made up of members from the R&A and the USGA, oversees and refines the Rules every four years. The most recent revision went into effect on January 1, 2016. Changes to the Rules of Golf generally fall into two main categories: changes that improve understanding of the Rules and changes that reduce penalties in certain cases to ensure balance.

The rule book, entitled “The Rules of Golf,” is published regularly and also contains rules governing amateur status. In Italy, the Federgolf is responsible for supervising competitions by enforcing the rules issued by the R&A, checking that these rules are observed by clubs, associations and their members, and administering the resulting sporting justice, protecting their interests abroad.
