“PGA fans are getting older”

During a recent interview, given in anticipation of the LIV Golf Tournament being held September 13-15 in Chicago at Bolingbrook Golf Club, Phil Mickelson was a guest along with the city’s mayor, Mary Alexander-Basta.

Among the various topics that the moderator analyzed, it was inevitable that the changes that have taken place and are still taking place in the Gulf scenarios after 3 years of the Saudi League’s presence on the world stage would be discussed.

Phil Mickelson, statements

Well, Mickelson, in his answer to one of the questions, highlighted a relevant aspect of the current scenario. “I agree that we are in the midst of a period of upheaval, but it will be over soon, and the situation we will be in when this is all over will be exponentially better than where we were at the beginning of this journey” “The average age of the PGA Tour fan base has gone from 60 to 65” “We (LIV Golf, editorial note) are targeting a very different generation, much younger”.

We’ve touched on the topic of how to connect with fans through new channels and new technologies several times, both on the PGA Tour and on the LIV Golf side, and Mickelson highlights the strategies LIV is following to achieve that goal.

“We can create on-site content, like we’re doing in Bolingbrook in a couple of weeks.” “We can create additional content that’s much more interactive with our fan base, like we do in the Pros versus Schmos series (a project created and produced by Team HyFlyers GC, of which Lefty is the captain, ed.), where we compete and engage the fans in the game.”

“It’s something different and unique.” Mickelson is still very beloved by the fans (a good friend of mine who was at the US Open in Torrey Pines told me that the two most followed players were Tiger and Phil, ed.), and he always tries to connect with them.
