PFA Awards: Phil Foden wins Male Player of the Year award, Cole Palmer Young Player of the Year award

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has won the Professional Footballers’ Association player of the year award, while Chelsea winger Cole Palmer has been named young player of the year.

It is the first time since the 2009-10 season that both men’s awards have gone to English players.

Wayne Rooney and James Milner won the Player and Young Player of the Year awards respectively that season.

“It’s very special to win this award, I’m very proud and grateful for it,” said Foden.

“It means a lot to be recognized in this way by my colleagues and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me.

“Last season was another very special season for everyone at the club, but now the focus is fully on achieving more success this season.”

Foden scored 19 goals in 35 top-flight games in the 2023-24 season as City won their fourth consecutive Premier League title, becoming the youngest player to win six league titles at the age of 23.

It is the first time the Stockport-born playmaker has been voted PFA Player of the Year, having previously been voted Best Young Player twice.

He also won the Premier League Player of the Season 2023-24 award and was named Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers’ Association (FWA).

Foden beat his City team-mates Erling Haaland, who won the award last year, and Rodri, as well as Chelsea’s Palmer, Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, who were also shortlisted.
