Paula Badosa’s career revives in Washington

“It’s been a while, a long time for sure. At the moment I would say it’s the most special title of my career. To be able to play at this level again and win a title like this means a lot to me. After everything I’ve been through, I didn’t know if I could continue my career or not, I was fighting with all the pain I had in my body, I just wanted to prove people wrong.

This pushed me to do my best, especially in the final, where I really wanted the title. I am happy that I controlled my emotions and finally got the victory.” Paula Badosa’s career was reborn in WashingtonShe confirmed it herself at the press conference after her victory at the Citi DC Open.

Since 2022, when the Spanish tennis player won her third WTA title in Sydney and finished second in the WTA rankings, it seems like an eternity has passed.

The stress fracture in her spine, suffered in 2023, had ended her season, leaving her to sink in the rankings.

The big problem, according to the doctors, was that she could no longer play tennis. But Badosa made it. She started doing what makes her feel better again and at the Wta 500 in Washington fate wanted to give her back a little of what it had taken from her.

The 26-year-old won in three sets in the final of the Mubadala Citi DC Open against Czech Marie Bouzkova to win her fourth career trophy. The Spaniard expressed her joy at the American success, which allowed her to return to the top 40.

A won match against the Czech and against himself. “The worst thing I have is patience, so it was very difficult for me. The first rain delay was my worst enemy, but I realize that the second stop was my friend. I felt a lot of emotions, I started to cry when I left the court for the third set because I was very nervous, but this helped me to free myself and calm down.

Then I came back stronger, that’s the truth. I think all the ups and downs and problems I’ve been through are helping me nowToday I appreciate every situation, every moment, above all I appreciate this title more than ever. When you go through difficult moments, you appreciate the good moments even more,” she explained.

Paula can now climb positions in the rankings and take back what she has left behind in recent months.

A personal revenge also on all the haters who attacked her in these months, especially because of her relationship with Stefanos Tsitsipas. But, as I always said (and to hell with all her haters), Badosa had everything he needed for a comeback. And here she is, deservedly, in a career that can start again from here.
