Emma Hayes’ long-awaited takeover of the US women’s national team may be the big news ahead of this summer’s Olympic women’s soccer tournament, but will the pair make a successful start in France?

Only 12 countries qualify for the Games, which are a senior women’s tournament, unlike the men’s under-23 tournament. The selection is therefore packed with top teams, including World Cup winner Spain, South American champion Brazil and Canada, which won the gold medal in Tokyo in 2021.
