Paris 2024 Olympics: Britain’s Josh Kerr wins silver in 1500m behind surprise champion Cole Hocker

Britain’s Josh Kerr had to settle for silver in the 1500 metres, behind surprise champion Cole Hocker. Jakob Ingebrigtsen narrowly missed out on a medal.

As world champion Kerr and reigning Olympic champion Ingebrigtsen fought their long-awaited battle for the title, American Hocker overtook them both to claim his first ever outdoor world title.

With a perfectly timed final sprint, Hocker took gold in an Olympic record time of three minutes and 27.65 seconds.

Kerr, who won his bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, crossed the finish line in a British record of 3:27.79, while another American athlete, Yared Nuguse, ran a personal best of 3:27.80 for bronze.

Norway’s Ingebrigtsen initially led, but faded in the closing stages and missed the podium in fourth place. He had lost twice in the World Championship final in the 1500 meters to Kerr and his compatriot Jake Wightman since his victory in Tokyo.
