Paris 2024: Five things to watch out for on Monday | Olympic Games

NEW DELHI: Shooting could provide India with more medals on Monday as riflemen and marksmen take centre stage at the National Shooting Centre in Chateauroux. There is also a chance to win the first-ever Olympic medal in archery. The men’s archery team enter their quarter-final elimination round on Sunday.

Here are five things to watch out for during the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris on Monday:

To shoot

All eyes are on Manu Bhaker, who gave India their first medal in Paris on Sunday. Today, she teams up with Sarabjot Singh in the 10m air pistol mixed team qualifier. Ramita Jindal (women) and Arjuna Babuta (men) will be seen in the 10m air rifle final, while Prithviraj Tondaiman is all set to fire his shots in the men’s trap qualifier.

Hockey

After beating New Zealand 3-2 in their Group B opener, the Indian men’s hockey team will have to step up their game against Argentina. The Rio 2016 champions gave a top team like Australia a run for their money despite losing 1-0. Another win will take India closer to the quarter-finals.

Archery

Men’s Team Quarter Finals

India vs Turkey/Colombia

The Indian women’s team suffered a shock 0-6 defeat to the Netherlands on Sunday, but hopes are still high that the Indian men’s team of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Pravin Jadhav and Tarundeep Rai will take home the country’s first medal in archery. India, seeded third, will face the winner of sixth-seeded Turkey and 11th-seeded Colombia in the pre-quarterfinals. The winner is likely to face second-seeded hosts France in the semifinals.

Judo

The women’s 57kg and men’s 73kg judo medal matches on Monday at the Champ-de-Mars Arena promise some high-quality action. The day begins with two bronze medal matches in the 57kg, followed by the final. The same sequence will be repeated in the men’s 73kg event.

Swimming

The women’s 400m individual medley final begins at the La Defense Arena in Paris, with Canada’s Summer McIntosh the favorite after breaking her own world record in May. McIntosh will also compete in the women’s 200m freestyle, the final swimming final of the evening. She won Canada’s first medal of the Paris Olympics when she defeated American Katie Ledecky in the 400m freestyle on Saturday.
