Paralympics: GB’s Stephen McGuire wins boccia gold in Paris 2024

Britain’s Stephen McGuire has won gold at the Paralympic Games boccia after beating Colombia’s Edilson Chica to win the BC4 men’s title.

The 40-year-old won 8-5 at the South Paris Arena.

At half time the score was 3-3, but in the third of four ends McGuire scored five points to take a decisive lead.

It is McGuire’s first Paralympic medal at his fourth Games.

He was only added to the British squad for Paris 2024 at a late stage after recovering from a broken leg and knee suffered in a fall at his home in 2022.

Boccia is one of three Paralympic sports that does not have an Olympic counterpart. It is intended for athletes with conditions such as severe cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy that affect all four limbs.
