Pakistan vs India series to be hosted by Australia proposed

Cricket Australia (CA) chief executive Nick Hockley has said Australia is keen to host a tri-series with India and Pakistan.

His statement came weeks after Pakistan and India faced each other in the high-profile match of the recently concluded 2024 T20 World Cup.

While addressing the hype surrounding the Pakistan-India matches, he said that CA is ready to support and assist in organising tri-series involving the two cricketing nations.

Hockley then proposed organising a bilateral series between the arch-rivals, saying: “Pakistan and India are traditional rival teams; there is a lot of excitement for their matches.”

“We are ready to support both teams for a bilateral and a tri-series. We would like to play a part in the revival of the Pakistan vs India bilateral series,” Hockley said.

However, the CA chief felt that such plans could only become a reality if the respective cricket associations and governments of India and Pakistan cooperated with each other in this regard.

“The two boards must first take a decision and we will help organize it,” he said.

Pakistan and India have not played a Test match since 2007/08 and no bilateral series of any kind since 2012/13 due to long-standing political tensions between the two neighbouring countries.

However, the two fierce rivals have only faced each other at multinational events such as the Asia Cup and the ICC World Cups.

Last year, the PCB had to adopt a hybrid model when they hosted the Asia Cup, with some matches being played in Pakistan but all of India’s matches and the final in Sri Lanka. A month later, Pakistan travelled to India to play in the 50-over World Cup.
