Padres vs. Dodgers score, live updates: NLDS Game 5 is a winner-take-all matchup between NL West rivals

After competing in the NL West all season and being two of the top teams in the National League in 2024, it comes down to one game for the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series. Game 5 takes place on Friday night at Dodger Stadium, and this series has featured everything from fans throwing trash on the field, to Dave Roberts accusing Manny Machado of throwing a ball at the Los Angeles dugout, to Fernando Tatis Jr. with an incredible series.

The Padres won eight of the 13 regular-season meetings between the teams in 2024 and will send Yu Darvish to the mound against Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Darvish went three innings against the Dodgers in the regular season – he had a 1.72 ERA over 15 2/3 innings with 12 strikeouts and six walks in those games. Darvish also threw 7.0 innings and struck out three in San Diego’s 10-2 victory in Game 2 of this series. Yamamoto made two starts against the Padres early this season, including the season opener in South Korea, where Yamamoto lasted just one inning. In Game 1 of this series against the Padres, Yamamoto pitched five innings and allowed five runs.

The winner of Friday’s Game 5 will host the Mets, who topped the Phillies in their NLDS matchup, in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday.
