Oxford man charged with robbery and aggravated assault after hotel shooting

Oxford police have arrested one person in connection with a recent robbery and shooting at a local hotel.

On Sunday, officers responded to a call reporting gunshots in a hotel room. Officers cleared the room

but found no one inside. They were recently notified that a victim had arrived at the emergency department at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

According to reports, there were several people in the hotel room. A confrontation took place, during which a suspect demanded money and brandished a firearm. A struggle ensued and gunshots were fired. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Tuesday, officers on patrol located the suspect, Christopher Suggs Jr., 18, of Oxford, and took him into custody without incident.

Suggs was charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault.

“I am incredibly proud of the dedicated work of our officers and investigators. Thanks to their dedication and quick action, we were able to resolve this matter within 48 hours. Their commitment to keeping our community safe is evident in the way they handled this investigation,” said OPD Chief Jeff McCutchen.
