Donna Vekic v Jasmine Paolini – Jasmine Paolini wins the first set and wins the match

Jasmine Paolini swept Emma Navarro off the court in the quarterfinals and is now the favorite to reach her second Grand Slam final of 2024.

The Italian stays true to her philosophy in every match and it seems to work no matter what type of player she faces. It was the ‘Queen of Clay’ Iga Swiatek who was able to deny Paolini at Roland Garros, and while Donna Vekic has a decent grass court pedigree, she may not have enough to cause an upset on Thursday.

Paolini won the first set in each of her matches at SW19 this year, while Vekic had to come from behind twice and won only once in three sets.

The seventh-seeded player can continue her fast start and while Vekic will do her best to fight back, fatigue could take its toll on the Croatian.

Donna Vekic v Jasmine Paolini – Jasmine Paolini wins the first set 6-4, 7-5 OR 7-6

Although Paolini has a perfect five-from-five record in opening sets at the All England Club this month, not all sets have been easy. Among those victories are two tie-breaks and a 7-5.

She was first broken against Navarro and also lost a service game in the first set against Madison Keys. Vekic will be at her physical best at the beginning of the match, and while I expect her to come up just short, she will make a good fist of it early in the match.

We get a nice prize in the #WhatOddsPaddy section for Paolini who wins a narrow set.

Barbora Krejcikova vs Elena Rybakina – Elena Rybakina -4.5 game handicap

Elena Rybakina seems untouchable. She ominously suppressed any doubts about her fitness in the first round, and her passage to another Wimbledon final seemed increasingly inevitable as the tournament progressed.

Where other leading contenders have faltered, the 2022 champion has improved with every match. The Kazakh’s second-round encounter with Laura Siegemund wasn’t pretty, but she has been at her best in her three outings since.

Barbora Krejcikova has won both previous meetings between this pair, but Rybakina was not in the top 16 on either occasion. That is a different story now and the grass-court specialist can dominate the Czech.

Barbora Krejcikova v Elena Rybakina – Elena Rybakina wins 2-0 and wins each set 6-0, 6-1 OR 6-2

Rybakina has blown away her last three opponents – all of whom were worthy challengers. It is no disrespect to Krejcikova to consider the possibility of a similar outcome here.

The Kazakh has lost a total of nine games in her last three matches, winning 89 games to 48 unforced errors in that time. Such a semi-final ratio would pose all sorts of problems for Krejcikova, who has yet to face such attacks on her way to the last four.

This bet seems like a long shot for a reason, but if Rybakina can get her first serve percentage back up to the 69 percent she had against Caroline Wozniacki on Saturday, it could still be a handsome win.
